Awww Shucks! Support Your Local Farmer!

Shucks!!! I was productive today!
We got 6 dozen fresh sweet corn from a farmer down the road...
I shucked, cleaned, scraped and cut 12 pints canned corn,
8 quart freezer bags full of cut corn, along with a handful of cobs for the freezer!
This will be great for my little family come Winter!

I don't have my own crops of corn so I went to a local Farmer's home and bought from them. I try to make efforts to buy from my local Farmer's as often as possible. I am putting fresh, local grown produce on my table for my family while supporting the local farmer and his family, to put food on their table in return. It's a win win in my book!!!!

Downtown

We are enjoying our new life in Indiana and loving our new church family. We are slowly getting more opportunities to explore around us too, which has been great. We went downtown with this darling couple who just got married less than a month ago. What a delight they are too! They took us to a local pizza joint and walked around for a while as the sun went down.

I love, love, love old buildings and architecture...Some of these buildings are reallllly old. Next time we are downtown I will share better pictures taken with my camera...These horrible blurry pictures are from my phone. Sorry!

Until next time!!!!

Chicken Scratch~ Last Days Of Summer

Well the end of Summer is here....It's time to get ready for Autumn days, good home cooked meals, soup suppers, school and sweaters of course. I am still filling up our Winter storage...I took a little break from canning the last couple weeks due to end of Summer colds that hit our home. But getting ready to finish up tomatoes and apples and probably will get some corn canned as well. I am also catching up on some barters I owe to a few gals since our move to Indiana. I recently received this sweet vintage feedsack quilted mug rug from a lady in Ohio!

My girl and I have been busy cooking and baking in the kitchen too! Now that the weather will be cooling down there will be a lot more of that on the homestead.

There's not much going on here other than that and school will be starting Thursday for my girl. This year she will be taking a handful of classes through a homeschool co op, we will cover a few things at home as well plus she joined an acting troupe. I feel it will be a good year ahead despite what we have gone through recently. Just so thankful for the new life God has bestowed to us here in a new state, a new home and church family. We feel loved and blessed beyond measure!

Fixing Yourself Up

I am a stay at home mom, I homeschool my daughter, so working at home usually doesn't entail me to get fixed up everyday. I could wear pajamas all day long, heck all week long really. There have been many times I have been neglectful of fixing myself up, except for Sunday/Church day of course.

I guess you can say we get into a pattern of "who cares". When really you should care. In the last couple of years I have made more efforts to fix myself up. Number one reason, Because I should be a good steward of my own body and self...Not for me but it is honoring to God. The second huge reason to fix yourself up is for your spouse. We tend to get into ruts sometimes after being married for a long time. But, why should we neglect looking pretty and kept for the one we love? I know my husband appreciates it when I fix my hair, put on a bit of makeup, get dressed, or wear some nice perfume. And yes, you can do it for yourself too..
It makes you feel good and pretty inside and outside.

It's also fun to learn some new ways to wear your hair...If your into that sort of thing. I have grown my hair out the last couple of years. My husband had expressed how much he loves long hair. I had usually kept it just below my jaw line or to my shoulders. But, what I really wanted was to please my husband and so I grew my hair out. He doesn't love me any more or any less for it or how I kept my length before...And he doesn't force me to wear it a certain way...It was just something he expressed and I wanted to make him happy. I like it too...It has been years since I have had my hair longer than shoulder length. Anyways....I have been experimenting different hairdos for fun...And my husband loves it too. My recent experiments have been up dos and victory rolls from the 40's. An era I have always loved and have been drawn to. It truly just makes me happy that my husband appreciates my efforts. A sentiment of my love for him and to show him I care about him and myself just as the days we were dating, It just take a few minutes to fix your hair and put on a little makeup! So, get out there ladies...fix yourself up and dress to impress your husband everyday or at least several times a week...Since well, I still do love my jammie days! You'll be glad you did.....Trust me!!!

Wanna try some vintage styles and victory rolls? I found several video tutorials on how to do the do through YouTube. Just search victory rolls or vintage hairstyles.
They are beautiful, classy and timeless!

Pickles Cafe'

So excited to find this little hidden gem not to far from our new home. I am in love with the menu and the little shop upstairs and the vintage shop out back. A quaint lil place secluded in a small town surrounded by little homes and farms. It's the perfect place for a lunch and shopping all in one.

I ordered a hammy & cheese smothered in apple butter panini... This will be a new favorite, regular place to visit with y girl, or friends and even a sweet date with Mr. Darling. Saturdays they serve breakfast...Will have to check it out. If your ever in Indiana near Fort Wayne look up Pickles...
It won't disappoint!

I came home with this fun old egg carton and a colorful linen towel from the 40's.
I already have a list of a few items I want to go back for. Until then...
Have a Happy Weekend!
