Momma & Poppa Robin

Remember several posts back we had a Momma Robin getting her nest ready then laid her precious eggs in it? Well they hatched last week. We have been watching them from the window as not to scare momma into thinking we are trying to harm her babes. It appears that Momma & Poppa both are tending to their babies needs by getting grub many times throughout the day. Momma & Poppa have also been seen both sitting upon the nest at the same time. I didn't realize that daddy Robin's shared responsibilities. It has been fun to watch.

We check on them periodically and even worry about them. It has been pretty crazy around here as far as the weather goes..One day it's sunny, the next it's raining. Then two huge storms came through with wind, thunder, lighting and hail. All the while these loving parents sat on their nest getting hit by the wind, rain and chill. I am so proud of them for their diligence. God really shows His love for even His smallest creations. It's been such a treat to witness right outside our window, I can't get the best of pictures, but glad I captured what I did!

Soon their babies will leave the nest and hopefully Momma & Poppa will stick around and build again here. I think Robin's usually have about three or four nest fulls throughout the season. They picked a perfect spot to set up for sure, it has kept them all pretty safe under the eaves of the porch.

Butter Makes Everything Better

Another installment of Pioneer Woman Wednesday, sharing my Pioneer Woman butter dish and cow creamer mixed with vintage floral canisters and pretty colorful flowers. It's quite the cheery vignette. Makes me smile! Hoping it gave you a smile too!

Spring Is In The Air

Spring is in the air! The trees and flowers are blooming around here...And the birds are building nests and laying their eggs. We are so blessed to have this darling Momma Robin on our back porch doing her thing. She sings during the day and sits on her beautiful blue eggs. It's such a treat to watch right outside our window. I took a quick picture while momma bird was out singing and getting herself a meal. There are four brilliant little perfect eggs! Can't wait to see their lil heads popping up from the nest soon. I won't get too close when that happens...So i don't scare the babes out of their nest. I did that many years ago and couldn't get the babies to stay in the nest afterward. They were not ready to go. I placed them back in the nest but they plopped out again. I felt horrible. And their momma was quite upset. Lesson learned: Don't mess with God's lil creation.

Spring in ultimately my favorite season of all time. Everything begins to bloom so beautifully. It just goes by so fast! We also decided not to rush on the garden this year as we had planned. We have to wait for some possibilities in our future, so we are holding off. Until next time friends! See y'all soon!

Farm Fresh Eggs

Yay! I found a couple local farms to get my eggs! There is nothing like farm fresh, pasture raised eggs....They are proven to be wayyyyy better for you than conventional eggs you find in grocery stores. I also love getting eggs & supporting local farmers! If I am not buying local...I always look for pasture raised eggs...I don't even trust egg cartons that say cage free...That could mean they live in confined buildings w/o sunlight and land to forage in.

In comparison to a conventional egg, pasture-raised eggs contain:

1/3 less cholesterol
1/4 less saturated fat
2/3 more Vitamin A
2 times more omega-3 fatty acids
3 times more Vitamin E
7 times more beta carotene
The sunlight exposure a hen gets gives their eggs 4-6 more times Vitamin D
The grass they eat promotes higher levels of folic acid, and even measurable levels of Vitamin C

Happy Hens Lay Healthy Eggs!

And wouldn't you want the best for your family?
