Chicken Scratch~ End Of Summer Canning

We went to the Farmer's Market this last weekend and I found a kind Farmer who was selling veggies and tomatoes. It was almost the end of the day and a storm was pushing through, we got to talking a bit and I told him I didn't have a garden of my own this year and really wanted to can some tomato stuff this year. He said he would give me a great deal...Almost 100 pounds of Roma tomatoes for $30. Ummmm Yes! I felt that was a good and fair price...He was very kind!

I got to working..and ended up with a bit of a head cold which held me back for a couple days this week...But I am still working on preserving every last bit of them. I made 4 quarts of smooth spaghetti sauce, 6 quarts of whole tomatoes and working on chunky marinara sauce. Not sure yet how many jars I will get from that. Then I still have one huge box to go...So thinking of just canning whole or diced tomatoes which are always great for using in chili or making a quick sauce from that.

We were also blessed with green beans and more zucchini and cucumber by a couple from church. I canned the green beans....And will most likely pickle some squash
and then freeze a bunch of it for breads.

It's been a busy week... I just hope to get most of this done before I start making apple sauce and apple butters.....Then maybe I can get my house and kitchen back in working order. It is filled with jars and canning pots!

Happenings

I mentioned last week that I bartered with a gal in Texas...She got my package! Yay!!!! She loved what I added. I gave a little extra as a gift to her, like a fun patchy pair of cotton overalls I found for a few bucks while thrifting and added in some seeds and seed starter pots. She is very young, married with 3 littles living on their homestead. I thought she would appreciate the little extras. She was running a bit late on the barter she is sending me which is totally understandable when she has three kiddos underfoot. I am just thrilled that I was able to bless her.

We went to our tiny farmer's market in town over the weekend and picked up a dozen pasture raised & fed chicken eggs and half a chicken from The Pasture Chick, for one of our dinners this week.
I will also be making some delicious stock after we eat it to use in another dish. There is nothing like having homegrown eggs and chicken...Even worth the extra money you spend for it...Plus I love that the Farmer gets the money from their goods.

Since making my Dottie Frock last week I decided to make more to add to my farmgirl style...I can't wit to start cutting into this fabric I found from a gal in Kentucky. It's going to be very patchy and funky...I love it! Another gal reached out to me if she could barter with me...She would like a frock made from vintage sheets and she will send me some her goods. I agreed.
Will share once the barter goes through. I will be slowly getting more things done for My Farmgirl shop as well....Just getting over this bad cold/flu... And planning out my to do list. Here's to a good productive week ahead!!! Cheers!!!!

Weekending

We had a fun weekend out and about. Ran some errands, got some things from the farmer's market, fed farm animals some carrots, visited the Garlic Shoppe and bought a few jars of garlic goodness. Mr. Darling also took me to the thrift shop where I found a few goodies! We figured since our life is about to be uprooted once again, that we should go to a few places around town that we haven't visited yet. There's a few more things we will see and experience before our move in February. My favorite part of the weekend was witnessing Mr. Darling feed his very first cow. It was like watching a little boy with the biggest smile and dimples you ever did see!
