Chicken Scratch~ My Thrifted Treasures
After a longggggg couple of weeks being sick, I finally ventured out for the afternoon while my girl was in her Biology class. I went to several shops and brought home some treasures. I was pleasantly surprised to find a bag of vintage gingham fabrics for a couple bucks, along with a couple colorful embroideries and a little 1950's poodle. Another shop led me to 6 crisp white scalloped vintage hankies and a red tomato string holder. Then I found the lil piggy planter....
This little piggy came home!
Sorry for the horrible photos...
They came from my phone.
See y'all soon!!!

Blooming Garden Inspirations
I am getting ready planning out our garden for the next coming season. We decided to do square foot gardening which is basically raised beds. We are going to build our boxes then fence in the area since we have deer in the area. I found some fun inspiration on Pinterest to get my creative juices flowing.
Once we put in the fencing I am hoping we can build an arbor sorta like the one below, then add a gate for the entrance. The bird houses are a great addition...Though I may use bug houses instead. Lady bugs and bees are beneficial to a garden too!
We also plan to have some trellises for climbing plants, and a scarecrow will be a must... I would hang bunting on it as well, in hopes that it would scare unwanted critters off. I would also add some bunting on some of the fencing...So the wind will blow them around
a bit which may help detour critters as well.
I'm going to hang wind chimes as well...Another possible thing that would spook off critters. Wouldn't it be a pleasant sound while your out gardening away? I also plan to add old windows to the fencing behind climbing plants to add height where a deer can't get to it. Adding color will give our garden charm and whimsy! EEEEP!!!
I already started composting and would like to put in a rain barrel to help watering the plants.
Our plan is to plant things that we will use and eat of course, On my list is green beans, broccoli, squash, cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, carrots and hopefully spinach or lettuce of some sort. I am tinkering with the idea of planting potatoes or sweet potatoes too... I would also like to put in flowers and hoping to get my hands on some rhubarb. Now to start planting my seeds indoors soon and work on the measurements and design of our garden,,,,We have the plot all picked out: with no need to till the area since we are using raised beds...We will probably add rocks or wood chips to the ground around the boxes so we get less muddy areas when it rains. I also plan on working out little green houses and protection for my plants if we get a big storm.
Hopefully soon we will be able to show you some progress as we go,
yet it's going to be a lot of work ahead of us!!!
Can't wait to get a little closer to self sustaining our family!
